Intermountain Golf Car History Began in 1983 with Ray Homer

In 1983 Ray Homer went to work for a major golf cart Distributorship focusing on golf cart sales, service, and rentals in the Salt Lake Valley. While there he worked as a mechanic in the service department. As time progressed he learned the fundamentals of the golf car industry. He also developed important relationships in the golf community.

In 1985 he decided he wanted to start his own golf cart dealership. Using the experience he gained, he created his own golf car dealership, Ray’s Golf Cars. Initially, his new company dealt only in used golf carts.

At that time where no new golf car dealerships were available as all three of the major U.S. golf cart manufacturers already had dealerships in Utah. But, as time went on the Club Car Distributor for Utah closed their doors for business, providing a great opportunity for Ray. After meeting with Club Car, a deal was struck and Ray’s Golf Cars became Utah’s factory authorized Club Car Distributor.

As a result of Rays’ hard work he was successful in operating his own golf vehicle distributorship and has presided over that company and seen it grow from a small one-man operation to a thriving regional business.

From a One-man Start-up to Five Dealerships in Three States

Over the past 37+ years that small start-up company has experienced outstanding growth. As the IGC grew it was determined that the company would be better managed as a corporation. So, in 1992 the required paperwork was completed and the company’s name was changed from Ray’s Golf Cars (partnership) to Intermountain Golf Cars, Inc (corporation).

Over the years Intermountain Golf Cars has grown from a small one-man operation to a thriving regional corporation. IGC currently employs over 50 employees who manage and carry out it’s daily business operations. IGC has sales and service facilities In Sandy and St. George Utah; Idaho Falls (Chubbuck) Idaho and Mesquite and Las Vegas, Nevada. Nearly half of the company’s employees are trained golf car technicians. IGC operates five locations and a service van throughout the Intermountain region.

Success Builds Upon Success

Today Ray Homer continues to guide the company as President. Drew Homer serves as Vice President and General Manager.

In 2003 IGC moved it operations and corporate center from Murray to Sandy, Utah.

From the beginning, IGC has worked hard to develop expertise in the sales, service, and rental of golf cars and related functions, such as selling parts and accessories, and customizing golf and utility carts, compact vehicles, and other related transportation items.

In the early 1990’s IGC served as regional management for a national golf car fleet management company know as Golf Car Systems. This company purchased and subleased golf cars to municipal and private golf courses. This system is very comprehensive and includes an extensive maintenance and service program for maintaining a quality fleet.
